Sony Xperia I Mark IV – The Future of Smartphone Cameras?
Just like you think about Sony’s previous Xperia phones, It’s a professional-level creativity tool designed for working artists rather than a consumer-grade smartphone. You can say goodbye to fingerprints with its matte finish, dedicated camera shutter button, good-looking display, and impressive battery life, and also can access your sim card and memory card tray with just your fingers.
There are three 12-MP cameras here, the main lens with optical image stabilization (OIS), an ultrawide, and a telephoto sensor with OIS and true optical zoom. The latter feature is the big new addition this year. Like zoom lenses made for DSLR and mirrorless cameras, this telephoto lens mechanically moves between 3.5x and 5.2x zoom, meaning in between those zoom levels you’re not getting crappy digital zoom quality like most other phones; you’re still getting a crisp photo. However, it’s such a small window to play with that it might not matter much at all.
Sony approaches mobile photography differently from other brands. Essentially, Sony wants you to take photos the way you would with a real camera
Xperia 1 IV’s cameras are beyond the simplicity you might expect from a flagship smartphone. Its continuous camera zoom is just fantastic. Despite a demanding 4K, 120-Hz screen, the 5,000-mAh cell comfortably lasts a full day plus a bit more on a single charge.
It brings some stellar creative features, with its continuous optical zoom wowing for photography and its ability to shoot 4K 120fps footage on all three cameras a great tool for video. The telephoto lens has moving components so it can seamlessly move between 3.5x (85mm) and 5.2x (125mm) zoom levels. This is a fantastic feature for people who like zoom photography, as it lets you properly line up your subject without having to rely on digital zoom (or cropping) to close the distance.
The Sony Xperia 1 IV continues the series’ tradition of using the top-end chipset available – that’s Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in this case. We’ve seen this in loads of smartphones at this point, including the OnePlus 10 Pro, Xiaomi 12, and Samsung Galaxy S22.
If you are a Sony Alpha camera user or simply a photo enthusiast, the Sony Xperia 1 IV is for you. Xperia 1 IV with its great design and offers budding videographers and photographers one of the best shooting experiences and feature sets currently available from any smartphone, which I’m sure you’ll agree is no mean feat.
